How to Succeed in Yiwu International Trade City

Buyers who return to Yiwu every season tend to follow the same pattern: they narrow the list early, they compare on total landed cost rather than unit price, and they keep the supplier relationship simple.

Shortlist before you negotiate

Collect five to eight quotes for the same specification, then reduce to two or three suppliers. Comparing more than that rarely improves the decision and slows sampling down.

Compare total landed cost

Unit price is only one part of the number. Add packaging, carton size, inland transport, consolidation, freight and any testing or certification. Two suppliers with a ten percent price gap can reverse order once shipping weight is included.

Keep the specification stable

Changing material or packaging after sampling is the most common reason a first order slips. Freeze the specification before production, and record any approved change with a new sample reference.

Respect the small order economics

Small quantities are possible in Yiwu, but the cost per unit is higher and lead times are less predictable. Budget for that from the start instead of negotiating it away later.

Build a repeat relationship

Suppliers prioritise buyers who order again. Consistent specifications, on-time payment and clear communication usually deliver better prices than aggressive negotiation on a first order.
